Why Now?

The Full Story

In critical situations, time is everything. Yet across many countries, including Indonesia, access to blood still depends on knowing the right person or being lucky enough to be in the right hospital. There is no unified system, no real-time visibility, and no way to act quickly when it matters most.

I (CEO) saw this problem closely when someone connected to my family passed away during childbirth because there was no blood available.

Her family searched, asked, and waited. But time ran out. That moment stayed with me. It made me realise how fragile the current system really is, and how easily someone else I care about could face the same risk.

Indonesia needs around 5.6 million units of blood each year, based on the World Health Organization’s 2% minimum. Yet more than 1.5 million of those units are not collected.

The global demand for blood is increasing, with the blood transfusion market growing at 6% annually. This is driven by rising surgical procedures, road accidents, dialysis, and population growth.

At the same time, global awareness of blood donation is improving. Donations rose by 10% after COVID. However, younger people under 36 are donating less, mainly due to lack of information and confidence.

Circula helps bridge that gap by creating a space where people can learn, participate, and respond during emergencies.

Governments are also turning to blockchain to improve transparency. The blockchain-in-government market is growing rapidly, with a projected 81 percent annual growth rate. This shows a clear shift towards systems that provide traceable, secure, and reliable data.

We are building Circula now because the need is real, the technology is ready, and the delay costs lives. This cannot wait any longer.
